Take Me to the River is a celebration of the arts featuring ten fabulous art events over five fall weekends. Over the years, thousands of people come to the St. Croix River Valley to experience the amazing natural and artistic spaces of the region. During art fair season, you can experience art at every bend in the St. Croix River.

Large community art fairs are held alongside open artists’ studios. You have many opportunities to visit unique and artful spaces during Take Me to the River. New this year is The Front Yard Pottery Sale September 13-15 and Art at Belwin on October 6.

Harvesting layers, textures, and earth tones, these five artists utilize natural materials in diverse ways.

The exhibition features hand embroidery artist Alycen Brothen, mixed-media artists Sharon Grosh and Mary Welke, potter S.C. Rolf, and botanical printmaker Linda Snouffer.

The cycles of birth, growth, death and renewal are reflected in their pieces, leaving a record of time.

River Valley Potters is a group of independent potters collaborating to promote events, build community, and share handmade pots.

Visitors are invited to see the studios, shop for handmade pottery and connect with potters while enjoying the natural beauty of the St. Croix River Valley.  A short drive from one another, each rural studio is distinctive and charming, making it easy and fun to visit in one day. Each Studio will be featuring the work of guest artists as well.

Diane is primarily an outdoor painter. She prefers to work directly from Life and enjoys the communion with Mother Nature saying "It engages all the senses. You feel the breeze, smell the air, hear the birds, as you see the beauty before you". In the tradition of impressionism, she strives to capture the fleeting light with expressive, painterly brushstrokes.

The recording comes to life and The Drowsy Chaperone begins as the man in the chair looks on. Mix in two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not-so-bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan, and an intoxicated chaperone, and you have the ingredients for an evening of madcap delight.

A haunting song echoes across the holler. A weary traveler is drawn into a funeral service for one of many white workers who moved from Appalachia to Detroit in the last century. But this is no normal funeral and this is no ordinary corpse. As the funeral unfolds this group of rootless mourners are confronted by their pasts, their ancestors, by spirits helpful and malicious. But did any of them really know this man they are mourning? Did he exist at all?
Layering traditional Appalachian songs with family secrets, ancient Welsh mythology, brutal comedy, and rituals inherited and invented, Will You Miss Me? pushes audiences to examine the stories we tell ourselves about who we are and to grieve the selves that have been forgotten.
Drawing on the history of labor-driven migration in the United States from coal mining company towns of the mountains to the automobile factories of Detroit, Will You Miss Me? tells a story of the pain of assimilation that has resonated with audiences all over the globe. Join two National Park Service rangers, both U.S. Marine Corps veterans, for a free paddle event that connects veterans to the healing power of the Riverway. This outdoor activity offers reflection, rest, and a chance to connect with fellow veterans while benefiting your physical and mental health. After the paddle, the rangers will host an optional BBQ at Osceola Landing. Participants can stay for the BBQ or take a shuttle back to Interstate Park.

This is a fully supported event. You will be provided with premium kayaks, paddles, and PFDs, as well as a shuttle service back to your vehicles after the paddle.

Learn how to shape and decorate fall-themed items using barbed needles, wool, and wool felt. Once the items are done, participants string them together to make a garland.

Needlefelting is an easy and fun craft for all ages. Youth ages 7+ years old may take the class with a registered adult. (Each child ages 7-17 must have a registered adult so there’s 1:1 assistance for youth.)

Valley Bookseller  will be hosting The Road to Dalton author Shannon Bowring in conversation with Kathleen West. Shannon will be discussing her latest novel, Where the Forest Meets the River.

Tickets are $10 and include a $5 coupon to be used at the event.

Art and Ecology at The Acreage is a free public event inviting you to enjoy the intersection of art and nature.

(Note: this is a demonstration/lecture class. There is no hands-on baking or cooking.)

A local beekeeper also will be at the class to show a demonstration hive so participants can see honeybees up close, and taste samples of honey that are from different hives and locations.

After the class, participants are encouraged to explore the museum’s restored prairie and wetland, and see the variety of plants that support pollinators at Gammelgården.
