Spelmansstämman Music and Culture Festival: 2026 Japan

MUSIC PERFORMANCES Spelmansstämman is a long-standing Swedish folk music tradition based on outdoor gatherings (stämma) of Swedish musicians (spelman) to share music, friendship, and playing. At a traditional stämma, a small group of musicians share tunes they love and have in common. Gammelgården’s 36th annual Spelmansstämman will feature multiple musicians performing throughout the day. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS Come for the full day – or part of the day. Fly Fishing 101

Have you ever wanted to learn how to fly fish but don’t have gear? Are you beginning your fly fishing journey but can’t quite nail a perfect cast? Let Wild Rivers Conservancy and the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway reveal the mysteries of fly fishing to you! By the end of this dry land course, you’ll have all the knowledge you’ll need to catch your first fish on the fly! Thanks to a grant from the National Park Foundation, we will provide all the necessary equipment and teach you the basics such as knot tying, fly casting, wading safety, fish species identification, regulations & ethics. All you need to bring is a positive attitude, weather-appropriate clothing and water bottle! This course is recommended for 13 years old and older. Let's Go Fishing!

Have you ever wanted to learn how to fish? Or want your kids to learn but you don’t have the gear? Let Wild Rivers Conservancy bring the fishing to you! With help from the National Park Foundation, we’ll have everything your family needs to catch your first fish. Learn fishing basics such as equipment use, fish species identification, fishing regulations & ethics. You’ll even get to try out some Junior Ranger Angler activities! All you need to bring is a positive attitude, weather-appropriate clothing and a water bottle! This event is open to all families and first-time anglers. No fishing license? No problem! Program participants will be allowed to fish at this event without a license for CATCH and RELEASE, due to an educational fishing license waiver with MN DNR. Vehicle Admission: A Washington County Parks System vehicle admission sticker is required on all motor vehicles entering Lake Elmo Park Reserve. Botanical Cyanotype Art Class

Students will begin by gathering leaves, grasses, and botanical treasures from the surrounding landscape to use in their sun prints. Guided through the cyanotype process step by step, participants will learn how to arrange natural elements and expose them to light to create beautiful blue-and-white prints rich with detail and texture. This three hour workshop encourages creativity, observation, and a deeper connection to the natural world while creating a one-of-a-kind artwork suitable for framing and display. Creative Darning and Mending with Riley Kleve

Students can bring some of their own clothes to darn and mend using tools and supplies provided by instructor Riley Kleve. Students will learn to select materials, use various tools, and care for mended and darned clothing in class. Students will leave with new techniques for beautiful mends that add color, pattern, and durability to their clothing. Schedule: During this short class, students will get an introduction to methods of mending and darning that bring individuality to their clothing. There will be a balance of lecture, demonstration, and hands-on practice! For an additional $20, students have the option of bringing a mending disc home to continue their repairs. Prerequisites/Skill Level/Age Requirements: No prior experience required. Ages 18+ Register on EventBrite to guarantee your spot! Cancellation Policy: Up to 3 weeks before the event – 50% refund. Under 3 weeks before the event, no refunds. Riley Kleve is a nonbinary textile artist and educator creating collaborative work in community-led settings. Their work in weaving, handspinning, and embroidery draws from history to create a queerer vision for the future of textiles. Some recent highlights include weaving felted pins and inviting viewers to name them based on gender feelings they evoke, creating a co-woven tapestry with over 110 attendees at a dusk-till-dawn arts festival, and facilitating drop-in LGBT craft nights. Riley has a self-directed BA in craft from Hampshire College and is a 2024-26 Resident Artisan at North House Folk School.

Create a Kjolväskor (Skirt Pocket or Purse) with Natalie Norman

This two-day class with Natalie Norman focuses on making a kjolväskor (a skirt pocket or purse) featuring appliqué and embroidered designs. Swedish kjolväskor were part of the Swedish folk dräkt (folk dress) and were used to carry oats or salt so the cows would follow the herder home. Today, they may hold a cell phone or car keys. This practical decorative bag serves as a reminder of heritage and as a focal point of beauty, as it carries your belongings Suggested Age: 15 years old to adult.
