Summer Painting Workshops with Megan Miller

Session One. A great opportunity to start wherever you’re at. Megan will break down how to start a painting, creating positive mindset and dynamic compositions. Finding ways for your paintings to come together with ease. Trees and their various forms and color will be the focus. Beginner to intermediate. Together with Megan, you will practice small paintings and sketches. She will paint a demo and you will have a JOYFUL place to learn. Megan will be working in oil, and other mediums are welcome. *Bringing your own supplies allows you to choose materials that best fit your preferences and needs. Book Binding and Art Journal Workshop

Come and learn how to bind a tiny book using the kettle stitch, a simple yet effective method that has played a vital role in the history of bookbinding. Bookbinding is the process of physically assembling pages of a book into a finished product. It involves folding, sewing, gluing, and covering the pages to create a durable and aesthetically-pleasing book. We will bind our little book, cover it, and create a tiny visual journal along with a decorated Altoid tin to store your book in. Monique Vernon has been a paper art instructor since 2019, teaching classes at Community Thread in Stillwater and making cards for 15 years. The registration link will be posted in June 2026. Embroider a Wrist Cuff Workshop

This three-hour class with Natalie Norman is focused on making an embroidered wrist cuff. (A wrist cuff is used to warm your hands or as an accent piece worn as a bracelet.) Come with an idea of design choice or begin with one of the patterns that Natalie will have available. We will offer 5-6 basic embroidery stitches enhanced with ideas of combining varied stitches. Suggested Age: 15 years old to adult. The class fee includes a $15 materials fee. Natalie Norman has been part of the cultural needlework community for over 20 years, participating as a vendor, demonstrator, and teacher at venues such as Gammelgården Museum, American Swedish Institute, and Marine Mills Folk School. Sponsored by the Swedish Embassy in Washington, DC, her embroidered work was featured in a traveling exhibition that visited five major American cities and concluded with a 15-month tour in Stockholm, Sweden. In 2019, Natalie received a fellowship from the American Scandinavian Foundation to study a traditional form of folk art. Courses in fritt broderi at Sätergläntan in Dalarna and påsöm at the Mora Folk School have since deepened her embroidery practice and strengthened her desire to share this passion with others. Fly Fishing 101

Have you ever wanted to learn how to fly fish but don’t have gear? Are you beginning your fly fishing journey but can’t quite nail a perfect cast? Let Wild Rivers Conservancy and the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway reveal the mysteries of fly fishing to you! By the end of this dry land course, you’ll have all the knowledge you’ll need to catch your first fish on the fly! Thanks to a grant from the National Park Foundation, we will provide all the necessary equipment and teach you the basics such as knot tying, fly casting, wading safety, fish species identification, regulations & ethics. All you need to bring is a positive attitude, weather-appropriate clothing and water bottle! This course is recommended for 13 years old and older. Meet your instructor: October Yates is an avid outdoorsman throughout the midwest. He has been kayaking and fishing since his youth, and adventured up and down the coast from Washington to Alaska. With help from the National Park Foundation, we’ll have everything your family needs to catch your first fish. Learn fishing basics such as equipment use, fish species identification, fishing regulations & ethics. You’ll even get to try out some Junior Ranger Angler activities! All you need to bring is a positive attitude, weather-appropriate clothing and a water bottle! This event is open to all families and first-time anglers. A valid Wisconsin fishing license is required for all participants 16 and older.
