Sustainable Sewing Workshop

This is an ideas class versus a hands-on class. Participants are invited to bring favorite clothes for mending or upcycling ideas, but the instructor will focus ideas on how to: Make clothing in your closet go further by mending, patching, or upcycling. Make the best use of thrift stores – not only clothing, but fabric and materials throughout the store. Find materials now that JoAnn’s is gone. The instructor will provide lists of sources, including the Stashery at the Textile Center and places for fabric garage sales. Find free patterns on the internet. The instructor will bring samples for the class to see and enjoy. The registration link will be provided by mid-April. Kris Livingston has loved sewing since childhood. She has over 30 years of professional experience working in theater costume design, custom home furnishings, and children’s applique for retail, as well as a teacher. Trent Romens Band is a Blues-Soul-Jam band hailing from the Twin Cities. Fronted by longtime local blues guitarist Trent Romens, this band is a culmination of Trent's ability to write songs and captivate an audience. Starting out on the local music scene when he was only 13, Trent has been turning heads and forming a new familiar sound. From his early days as a blues-rock guitar phenom to his current incarnation as a mature player and thoughtful songwriter, Trent Romens has been a mainstay on the midwestern music scene for years. Join us at Gammelgården Museum for this outdoor festival celebrating the beauty of the Summer Day. Dating back to ancient times, Midsommardagen marks the longest day of the year and welcomes back warm weather. Enjoy traditional Swedish music, group folk dancing, hands-on activities, arts, crafts, and vendor fair, demonstrations by artists, and, in the center of it all, the Majstång/Midsommarstång (May/Midsummer Pole), freshly decorated with spring greenery. Fly Fishing 101

Have you ever wanted to learn how to fly fish but don’t have gear? Are you beginning your fly fishing journey but can’t quite nail a perfect cast? Let Wild Rivers Conservancy and the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway reveal the mysteries of fly fishing to you! By the end of this dry land course, you’ll have all the knowledge you’ll need to catch your first fish on the fly! Thanks to a grant from the National Park Foundation, we will provide all the necessary equipment and teach you the basics such as knot tying, fly casting, wading safety, fish species identification, regulations & ethics. All you need to bring is a positive attitude, weather-appropriate clothing and water bottle! This course is recommended for 13 years old and older. Meet your instructor: October Yates is an avid outdoorsman throughout the midwest. He has been kayaking and fishing since his youth, and adventured up and down the coast from Washington to Alaska. He now resides in the St. Croix valley and has years of experience guiding people throughout his favorite places along the Riverway.
