Still Hope’s mission is to bring people to together during the holiday season to celebrate, support, and connect with each other – to foster the power of community to instill lasting and actionable hope.

For 10 days within the transformed space of the train depot and Zephyr theater, Still Hope 2024 is a free community event with musical performances by numerous individuals and groups and featuring Stillwater and St. Croix Valley non-profits, artists, and vendors in holiday market setting.

Still Hope MN 2024 is free to attend, and it’s all waiting for you on Stillwater’s historic Main Street. Let’s make this holiday season one to remember — where local love, creativity, and joy meet in the heart of our community.

Dan Petrov is classicale trained oil painter. Forty exhibited oil paintings include the works in genre of portrait and still life. His traditional oil painting methods include both Direct and Indirect Painting Method. Presented artworks are in tradition of classical realism with special attention to the subjects of human relevance and activities.

Dan Petrov has his permanent art studio in Lakeville, Minnesota. He teaches oil painting in Minnetonka Center Of The Arts and Lakevile Areas Art Center.

Serbian-born artist Dan Petrov spent his university summers in Northern Italy, where he immersed himself in the painting techniques of both Renaissance and contemporary masters. After completing his studies, he expanded his skills across Europe, copying Old Master works in France, England, and Holland. Petrov's technique combines indirect and direct painting methods, resulting in works that span still life, landscape, portrait, and figure genres. In 1992, Petrov moved to Canada, where he studied with Sergio DePaoli, developing an approach deeply rooted in the Renaissance and Flemish oil painting techniques. In 2006, Petrov relocated to Minneapolis, Minnesota, and joined Richard Lack’s Atelier comprehensive studio art program. Today, he teaches Renaissance and Flemish oil painting techniques as well as the Alla Prima method, offering courses and workshops for students at all levels at his Lakeville, Minnesota, studio, where he continues to paint and pursue his artistic vision.

He describes his art as a journey that merges exploration, technical skill, and introspection. "Painting engages me in three directions: into the world, into the process, and into introspection," he says, emphasizing the importance of technical skill as essential for visual expression. Realism, he believes, is the most effective way to communicate ideas with clarity and respect for the viewer. His daughter Mia, when asked about her father’s work as a five-year-old, explained: "My dad paints things that look like things and people that look like people."

Petrov’s still life paintings, he says, go beyond mere representation of objects; they reflect humanity’s connection to nature and elevate the everyday to a higher realm of beauty. His portraits and figure paintings explore themes of individuality, impermanence, and the deeper emotions of grief, uncertainty, and resilience, finding optimism beyond fleeting happiness and instead grounded in meaning.

Meet Dan at the artist reception on Thursday, November 21 at 6:30 PM. Light refreshments will be served. Dan's works are viewable in the gallery on the upper level during library hours in November and December.

There’s a chilly nip in the early morning air, which means Winter and all its glorious festivities are right around the corner!  Art’s House Gallery & Gifts will be transformed once again into a gift-giving wonderland November 14th through December 28th when it hosts the Holiday Gift Gallery!

The Holiday Gift Gallery has become Art’s House Gallery’s biggest event of the year hosting 15 artists and a spectacular variety of beautiful unique handmade seasonal gifts.  Why shop “big box” when you can find something special and thoughtfully made by a local artisan?

This year's artists include: Dyan Carrison, Gayle Brunner, Katelyn Manske, Petra Guenthner-Johnson, Cheryl Maplethorpe, Jeanna Krause, Pauly Cudd, Carolina Downs, Leslie Batt-Lutz, Tina Kleppe, Megan Riley, Kathy Reinartz, Hjordi Van Ausdal, Miranda Kieren, and Marg Downing.

River Falls does this magical season proud with its festive Main Street holiday lights,  enchanting storefronts and events throughout the season.  The Holiday Gift Gallery will be open special hours Friday November 29th during Riverdazzle and Saturday November 30th during Small Business Saturday.

Keep those jingle bells rockin’ and join us to meet the Holiday Gift Gallery artists Saturday December 14th from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM at our annual CAB Holiday Party.  We’ll have seasonal refreshments, good company, and holiday music performed by the sweet duo of Curtis and Loretta.

There will be three courses of food along with your coffee.  The courses will include: Cardamom bread/butter, fruit-filled coffee cakes, sliced cheese and apples, rice pudding, and assorted Swedish Jul cookies. There will be Swedish Jul traditions and stories shared between courses.

Join us in the upper level of the Welcome House (Välkommen Hus) which will be decorated for Christmas (Jul) time. Feel free to shop the Butik while you are there. We have many wonderful products for the holidays and year-round.

Cost:

$18/adult (over age 12)

Child $12 age 5-12.

The coffee parties are not appropriate for children under 5 years old.

Come make a Witch's Ball.  This is a beautiful decoration that can bring in prosperity and luck into your home and ward off negativity all at the same time.  A time treasured piece that people are just learning the true history of.  In the Victorian era only the wealthy displayed these in their windows as a show of wealth.  However, the true origin goes back many centuries.  People displayed them in the front windows to drive off negative spirits and bad energy.   They also displayed them to assure an abundant and fruitful season for their family and homes.  Now see them as a glass ball with glass strings inside in many beautiful colors.

Monica is a screen print artist who uses layers and colors to create her intricate artwork, inspired by folklore, board games, video games, and the enchanting world of flowers and botanicals. She aims to capture that fantastical essence where the beautiful meets the bizarre. In this show you will see her interpretation of the Power 9 Magic Cards as well as larger floral pieces that capture the beauty of nature in the dark. Wynn Davis and Guillermo Cuellar draw on observation and feelings to create their work. Davis, a devoted runner, records his experiences via mixed-media collage with salvaged materials and original elements. Cuellar uses intuition and history to create pottery that evokes the spirit of old pots while generating ideas and discovering new personalities with each piece.

Join us for whimsical pet parade on historic Main Street! Bring your furry friends dressed in their festive best as we celebrate the holiday season with a parade led by none other than the Grinch. After the parade, head over to Lumberjack Axe Throwing to capture the magic with our festive photobooth, where you can snap adorable pictures with your pets. Each participant will receive a special swag bag filled with treats and goodies for both pets and their humans. See birds up close and watch the experts band birds at CNC. Banding runs continuously, so come and go as you please. Donations of bird seed and suet are appreciated in place of a program fee. In case of inclement weather such as heavy rain or snow banding may be canceled.

All banding, marking, and sampling is being conducted under a federally authorized Bird Banding Permit issued by the U.S. Geological Survey’s BBL.
