Our birdhouse design was inspired by the Little Free Library® on the corner of Orleans Street and Sixth Avenue in Stillwater, near the Old Athletic Fields. Although our daughter is the steward for this particular Little Free Library branch, it is supported and maintained by the members of her mother-daughter book club. We admire Little Free Libraries’ strategy to “promote reading for children, literacy for adults and libraries around the world.” Materials used in in our birdhouse are nontoxic to birds, people and the environment so it can be a safe haven for bird families for many years.

Artist Bio: Michael & Denise Stephens

Over the past 40 years we have lived, played and raised our family in the St. Croix Valley. Along with camping and hiking, our favorite activities also include reading, writing and bird watching. Over the past few years we began creating unique jewelry designs inspired by Native American art and culture. Our pieces incorporate materials from nature: stones, shells, leather and quills. Through our new jewelry business, Denise Stephens Creations, we have gained more opportunities to pursue the activities we love most and spend time with people who share our passion for art as well as our interest in Native American cultures.
