Kite Building
Presented by Treehaus Studio at Treehaus Studio Osceola, WI
Participants will learn how to build simple, beautiful kites using lightweight materials and customize their own designs. As we craft together, we’ll also explore how kites have connected people to the sky, to stories, and to one another for centuries. Along the way, we’ll touch on the science of flight, including how the structure of a kite helps it fly, how wind lifts it, how airflow creates lift, and why kites soar when pushed against the wind. This workshop is about more than just building a toy. It is about the wonder of watching something you’ve made take flight. It offers a chance to slow down, enjoy the breeze, and send your creativity soaring into the sky.

In this hands-on class, we aren’t just drawing—we are carving using the ancient technique of sgraffito. You will learn how to build up layers of oil pastel and then scratch to reveal the vibrant colors hidden below. This class is a bit messy, so an old t-shirt or an apron is recommended. We’ll be creating lots of little "pastel crumbs" as we scratch our way to a masterpiece!

This show is open to all active CAB members and will be a visible feast of eclectic art of all media types from painting and pottery to glass, photography, and art to wear. If you are an existing CAB Member and are interested in showing your art, sign up here. The sign-up deadline is Friday, June 5th at 11:45 pm. CAB’s mission to foster the arts in and around our beautiful River Falls community - from Art on the Kinni to Music in the Park - relies on the varied financial and volunteer support of our members (you can become a member here). CAB members not only support local arts, many of them are artists themselves. Sustainable Sewing Workshop

This is an ideas class versus a hands-on class. Participants are invited to bring favorite clothes for mending or upcycling ideas, but the instructor will focus ideas on how to: Make clothing in your closet go further by mending, patching, or upcycling. Make the best use of thrift stores – not only clothing, but fabric and materials throughout the store. Find materials now that JoAnn’s is gone. The instructor will provide lists of sources, including the Stashery at the Textile Center and places for fabric garage sales. Find free patterns on the internet. The instructor will bring samples for the class to see and enjoy. The registration link will be provided by mid-April. Kris Livingston has loved sewing since childhood. She has over 30 years of professional experience working in theater costume design, custom home furnishings, and children’s applique for retail, as well as a teacher.
