Celebrate the harvest at Carpenter Nature Center’s annual Apple Festival! This event is free and is held rain (or snow) or shine. Enjoy pick-your-own apples, hayrides (weather permitting), cider-making demonstrations, live music, live animal programs, children’s activities, apple brats, baked goods, and more! Learn about the animals of the St. Croix River Valley in our Visitor Center, and take a hike with your family on the trails!

The Wild Wanderers Hiking Club invites people of all ages to explore the St. Croix and Namekagon Riverway through guided hikes in some of the most beautiful lands that define our region. We strive to encourage a love of the outdoors, connections to nature, others, and ourselves, through shared appreciation for our natural environment. Costumes aren't only for trick-or-treating! Mona Susan Power: Featured Author and Open Mic (Theme: Wóohitika—Courage)

Join us on October 29, 2026 for poetry and community! Arrow Broken Poetry Collective is honored to welcome Mona Susan Power as our featured artist. Mona Susan Power is the author of four books of fiction, including The Grass Dancer (a National Bestseller awarded a PEN/Hemingway Prize), Roofwalker (a collection of stories and essays awarded the Milkweed National Fiction Prize), Sacred Wilderness (a novel which received the Electa Quinney Award), and A Council of Dolls (winner of the Minnesota Book Award and High Plains Book Award, longlisted for the National Book Award and the Carol Shields Prize). She's a graduate of Harvard College, Harvard Law School, and the Iowa Writers' Workshop. She is also the recipient of several grants in support of her writing which include an Iowa Arts Fellowship, James Michener Fellowship, Radcliffe Bunting Institute Fellowship, Princeton Hodder Fellowship, USA Artists Fellowship, McKnight Fellowship, and Native Arts and Cultures Foundation Fellowship. Her short stories and essays have appeared in numerous publications and anthologies including The Best American Short Stories series, The Atlantic Monthly, The Paris Review, The Missouri Review, Ploughshares, and Granta. Mona is an enrolled member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe (Iháŋktȟuŋwaŋna Dakhóta), born and raised in Chicago. During her childhood she was a member of the Chicago Indian Village movement, a group organized to protest the conditions of Native people lured to urban areas with promises of secure jobs and good housing, that seldom materialized. Color Of Structure- Opening Reception

In Color of Structure, the world looks different. Beth Dorsey weaves deconstructed images into new artworks. Sarah Lilja’s photographs bring unique perspectives on otherwise forgotten places. Madeleine Kaudy explores the ideas of time and memories through installation and collage. Michael Slagle deconstructs topographical maps, reassembling them into an image of another object. Together, they ask us to reimagine the world around us, through ideas of time, experience, and deconstruction. Phipps Teen Art Studio

Teens are welcome to join a planned project each week exploring new mediums, techniques and ideas or work on their own projects with support from our teaching artists. Experiment with new materials available in the studio or bring your own. Some weeks, we’ll take a gallery stroll to check out current Phipps exhibitions for fresh inspiration. Teens may register and join at any time during the session. Teen Art Studio is a low-cost program made possible through a generous contribution from Winkie and Bill Coyne.
