While working on-site, we will offer encouragement, constructive critique, and knowledge sharing to ensure you don't feel lost or uncertain about what to do. Together, they will reflect on the life and legacy of Michael Richards, tracing themes of flight, diaspora, Blackness, spirituality, and resistance that continue to resonate today. Following the conversation, audiences are invited to deepen their engagement through a Q&A and an informal reception with a tour of Are You Down?, before transitioning into a hands-on community art experience led by Mudluk Pottery Studio—offering participants the chance to create, reflect, and connect through clay. Richards’s artwork Are You Down?—Franconia Sculpture Park’s only permanent sculpture—is a bronze recast of a large-scale sculpture engaging the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen that was originally displayed during Richards’s fellowship at the park in 2000. The day closes with collective gratitude, leaving space for what has been shared, learned, and felt. This is more than a talk—it’s a layered experience of listening, making, and being in community. Hands-on Ham Radio on World Amateur Radio Day

Local amateur radio enthusiasts from Stillwater Amateur Radio Association will share how ham radios work, demonstrate different types of equipment, and scan the airwaves so you can actually “see” the radio signals all around us. Visitors will have the chance to listen in and even attempt live connections with people across the U.S. and around the world. This free, family-friendly event is perfect for curious minds of all ages. SARA members enjoy making radio science accessible and fun, from educational sessions and classes, to operating outdoors in parks, trails, and landmarks, and combine electronics and computers in new, experimental radio research projects. They’ll also share details about their exciting upcoming club project: building and launching a radio balloon 80,000 feet into the atmosphere to travel the globe. Long Lake Birding Tour 2026

Join Sustainable Stillwater MN’s Bird City Stillwater and the Brown’s Creek Watershed District's Community Advisory Committee for a guided morning birding tour around Long Lake. Spring migration makes this a perfect time to spot water birds and learn more about the important role birds play in our local ecosystems. Participants will walk along the paved trail on the west side of Long Lake while local guides help identify birds in the water and sky. Along the way, we’ll also discuss bird behaviors, the history of Long Lake, surrounding plants, and how these species connect to the lake’s ecosystem. This relaxed, educational outing is open to community members of all ages and experience levels. Whether you’re an experienced birder or simply curious about the wildlife around you, it’s a great way to enjoy nature and learn something new. Bring binoculars or a spotting scope if you have one.
